About Moy

“…a sexy, dangerous, I-been-there kinda’ deep soul voice that drops you to hell then soars you to heaven”

About Moy

Poet, vocalist and lyricist, Moy Eng is known for her “beautiful, soulful voice”. As a vocalist, Moy has performed with fine artists including Brenda Wong Aoki and Mark Izu, John Stowell, Masaru Koga, Steve Nakano, Paul Eastburn, Kenny Endo, Wayne Wallace, and Rick Vandivier. Moy began her writing life about a decade ago and has since written hundreds of poems, illuminating raw, intimate views of life, 30 of which have moved into songs.

As a lyricist, she principally collaborates with four-time Grammy nominated composer and arranger, Wayne Wallace. They are co-producing a first-ever recording of their works. Entitled the blue hour, it is scheduled for an early summer 2019 U.S. and international release.

MUSICAL COLLABORATIONS

Working with Wayne Wallace – no matter what we do, whether writing, exploring new ideas, performing. His intellectual curiosity about the world, 40+ year wide-ranging professional experiences, work ethic, craftsmanship, wisdom, and sense of humor. Writing together and co-producing this album has been/is a profound lesson and gift. With thirty songs written to date and 10 of which appear on this album, we continue to explore new possibilities to collaborate.

Playing and recording with guitarist John Stowell – fine musicianship, deep and evocative use of his harmonic language and listening/ having a musical conversation with him is such a learning opportunity and profoundly inspiring.

My ten year duo relationship with guitarist Bill Murphy. We met a little more than a decade ago, when I began to sing publicly. Inspired by Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass, I’m grateful to continue exploring the classic American (jazz) Songbook canon, rock classics, arias as well as test original songs.

Brenda Wong Aoki and Mark Izu – pioneer in Asian American storytelling, one that incorporates personal stories weaving with mythic and dramatic elements in an intimate and compelling way, no matter the size of the performance venue. I have worked with them as a vocalist in their theatrical productions since 2010.
